No-till in Field Research

No-till is becoming increasingly important in conventional agriculture. WINTERSTEIGER now offers the appropriate equipment for plot seeders for both precision planting and plot sowing.

The following parameters play an important role in direct sowing:

  • Ruggedness of the plot seeder and openers for use in untilled soil
  • Sufficient weight of the machine to achieve an appropriate opener pressure
  • Appropriate equipment for previous crop residues that are still in the field

No-till plot seeders seeding machines have the following main areas of use in field research:

  • Precision spaced planters
  • Seeders for plots and single rows

Longer-term experience of direct sowing already exists in the case of precision planting In this case the double disk openers need only be fitted with appropriate coulters or clearing disks for crop residues. Special heavy plot seeder frames have sufficient weight to achieve the required opener pressure.

There are also commercially available furrow openers for planting in rows that are suitable for direct sowing. However, the plot seeder frames need to be adapted for these to achieve both a rugged basic machine even for a larger number of furrow openers and also to achieve sufficient opener pressure. The machine can be tailored to different soil conditions by fitting it with additional weights.
